About Us

Friends of the OR&N 197 is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the restoration and operation of the former Oregon Railroad & Navigation Company 197 steam locomotive.

The last time this nearly 120-year-old locomotive treasure moved under its own power was in 1958. The engine is of intermediate size, well suited to operations from the Oregon Rail Heritage Center Museum, where it is on display.

Restoration is in full swing and is dependent on the support of OR&N 197 fans and backers.

Start-up contributions have inspired a generous donor to offer to match additional gifts. Foundations are responding positively to grant applications. We, the committed Friends of this magnificent locomotive, encourage everyone who cares about preserving railroad history to make a generous contribution today toward restoring the OR&N 197 to full operating condition.
